Many drivers racing tracks where it always seems to be going well, to overcome his car, and everything falls into place only in a weekend of racing. Lewis Hamilton and his record in Montreal is a good example of this kind of affinity between the track and the driver.
The temporary circuit in the Canadian city was the scene of Hamilton's first Formula 1 victory in what was only the sixth race of his career. In the British four full seasons in the sport, F1 has visited Canada on three occasions: Hamilton has been on pole on all three occasions, twice and got the win.
And this year the Grand Prix of Canada comes at a crucial moment for Hamilton. The last time in Monaco, said he removed the guards said as much in an interview on television, and even - but jokingly - played the race card, which he later apologized. Newspapers on Monday was critical of Hamilton, and many observers were quick to condemn both his driver's license during the race and comments.
But now Hamilton has the chance to put things right on track. McLaren seems to be making great strides as the season progresses, and has now reached a point where they can compare, or better still, overlooking the Red Bull RB7 pace. This is probably his best track, Hamilton can silence his critics once again sublime performance.
It is also interesting to note that Red Bull has been dominant in qualifying last year as well, with Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel takes pole until all Canada - just like they did this season. It was Hamilton, who interrupted the series last season, can do the same in 2011?
All eyes will be on Hamilton this weekend in Canada, mainly by the comments in Monaco, but also with the hope that it will only take the fight to Vettel in Montreal, and make this fight for the title in a career two horses.
It should also be noted with interest how the Pirelli run. Most of the races this season (Monaco and Australia are the exceptions) have seen three or four steps for most of the riders, thanks to a high decomposition PZero rubber. All this is a circuit where last year's Bridgestone tires every runner is easy just to make a mandatory pit stop. What happens when you arrive in the district in which the tire Bridgestone ultra-conservative who fought?
Last season was a mix of strategies in two or three stops in Montreal, because even harder compound Bridgestone showed a higher than expected decomposition. E 'was different than any other race in this way, so it will be interesting to see how the price of tires Pirelli here. Italian manufacturer of pneumatic tires brings super-soft and soft in Canada - the same compounds used in Monte Carlo.
Why Canada is notoriously difficult for both brakes and tires? Is on the long straights that lead to chicanes. The circuit is considered by the monitoring teams in support of "low, so drivers get a good speed on the straight, but after applying more pressure on the brakes to reach a corner. The car struggles by traction in the corners because of the low downforce and less grip, braking moves, increasing tire wear.
The track is made on the public highway, so it is very dirty, and is also abrasive asphalt, which in turn reduces tire. Grip is more than the race weekend progresses, provided that no overnight rain washed away the rubber F1 - as happened last year.
Being a street circuit there are no large areas of runoff, and the walls around the edge of the circuit means that accidents usually result in a safety car period, which provides even more unpredictable.
For what it's worth, the Canadian Grand Prix is one of my favorite races of the season. You are always assured a good race, the stands filled with enthusiastic audiences, and it is prime time for the British public.
E 'Lewis Hamilton to take victory number three in this fantastic circuit on Sunday? This will give him more wins to the likes of Canada, Ayrton Senna, Jackie Stewart and Alan Jones, and put it in terms of Nelson Piquet. In fact, only one driver would have more wins, Hamilton, Canada to: Herr M. Schumacher, who can take seven.
